HONORING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

ECHOES OF COURAGE:

Art Inspired by the Black Experience

February 2nd through March 30

at The Unity Center Art Gallery

Showcasing the work of nine artists, "Echoes of Courage" invites you to explore the rich tapestry of Black artistic expression. This exhibit features a diverse range of works, including paintings, mixed media pieces, and sculptures, all created by talented Black artists.

In addition, the exhibit features a captivating collection of handmade quilts by artist Patricia Joyce Kelly. These quilts tell the story of the Underground Railroad through a secret visual language, with symbols like the monkey wrench, bear's paw, and shoofly, offering a glimpse into this remarkable chapter in American history.

Artist Julie Weaverling's, "Lift the Sky" project was born of a need for a counterpoint to, and respite from, inevitable and constant bad news confronting the world. Artists answer the question, “what’s your message to the world?” then create art on 18”x24” pieces of muslin, canvas or other material which is then sewn into hanging panels. Artists from 14 countries responded with universal positive expressions in words and art as declarations of hope with messages of caring for the earth and the human family. Lift the Sky invites the viewer to see and hear themself while walking through the broader singular voice of many artists.

Each exhibit will feature different art panels.
